After Rodin: The Contemporary Figure

Our current show opened January 14th on the heels of the Virgnia Museum of Fine Arts's exhibit Rodin: Evolution of a genius. Inspired by the works of Rodin, artists including: Jocelyn Braxton Armstrong, Robert Bricker, Bob Clyatt, Fredric A. Crist, Paul DiPasqulae, James HubinRaymond Kaskey, Nol Putnam, Helene Roberts, Maggie Siner, Charles Sthreshley, Morgan Yacoe, and Richard Weaver  showcase their diverse works in assorted mediums and techniques. On their own the pieces  demonstrate the adept abilities of the artists, but when arranged within the confines of our gallery walls it's pure eye-candy.

Two such works that exemplify this ranging harmony of styles are Raymond Kaskey's Iphigenia and Fredrick A. Crist's Samurai!.

Kaskey's work based on the Greek Myth manifests femininity in sculptural form. The delicate details of the figure as she perches atop a ball give the piece a sense of motion and fluidity.

Contrasting this is Crist's work Samurai!. The heavy and bold forms of the sculpture create a masculine focal point commanding the attention of the viewer.
